Budget Deal Includes Rep. Walters’ CA Wildfire Relief Plan, Fully Funds Military, Improves Health Care & Fights Opioid Epidemic
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Mimi Walters (R-California) released the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 1892, the Bipartisan Budget Act.
Said Rep. Walters, “Today, I was proud to support a bipartisan, bicameral budget agreement that will keep the government fully operational, and give our troops the resources they need to keep us safe. This bill will also deliver on several major priorities of the American people such as fighting opioid addiction and providing additional aid to victims of recent natural disasters.
“I am particularly pleased that this budget deal includes my tax relief plan for victims of the recent California wildfires. Specifically, this legislation would allow for those affected by the historic 2017 California wildfire season to deduct property damage costs from their taxes, take penalty-free withdrawals from their retirement accounts, and encourage others to make charitable contributions to those in need.
“This legislation also includes $6 billion to fight opioid abuse and fund community health centers which provide care for 200,000 in California’s 45th District. Additionally, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is extended for an additional four years – a 10-year total extension when paired with the previous Continuing Resolution.
“This deal is not perfect. At the end of the day, this bill will keep government functioning long-term, help millions of Americans, and do right by our men and women in uniform.”
Walters represents California’s 45th District and serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and the House Committee on Ethics.
