Washington, DC – Representative Mimi Walters (R- California) released the following statement regarding the upcoming November 1st deadline for residents of California’s 45th District to request nominations to United States Service Academies:
“As the Representative for California’s 45th Congressional District, it is my honor to nominate students to the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Attending one of our nation’s service academies is an exceptional honor, reserved for our nation’s brightest students who exemplify the strongest leadership skills. With this honor comes the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. While answering this noble call comes with much sacrifice, it also represents the beginning of a long and gratifying career of service and patriotism. The November 1st deadline to request a congressional nomination is rapidly approaching, and I encourage those who are interested to apply. Best of luck to the students seeking to join the honorable ranks of our nation’s servicemen and women.”
To apply for a nomination to one of these academies, please visit walters.house.gov and fill out an online application. Please submit this completed application along with a photo, three letters of recommendation, SAT and/or ACT test scores, a high school transcript, a resume of extracurricular activities, and a 1-2 page essay explaining why you want to attend to a U.S. Service Academy in person to Rep. Walters’ Irvine Office no later than November 1st. A panel of U.S. Service Academy graduates, military personnel, and respected members of the community appointed by Rep. Walters will conduct interviews in early December.
Walters represents California’s 45th District and serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure and Judiciary Committees.
