Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mimi Walters (CA-45) released the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 1191, the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015. This bipartisan bill would prevent President Obama from finalizing a nuclear deal and unilaterally lifting sanctions on Iran without first receiving approval from Congress. H.R. 1191 passed by a vote of 400-25.
Said Rep. Mimi Walters, “While I have significant concerns about the ongoing nuclear negotiations with Iran, I am pleased that the bipartisan passage of today’s bill sends a clear message to the President – Congress must be included in reviewing any final agreement reached with Iran. Congress’ involvement will ensure that any potential agreement will not endanger the national security of the United States or the survival of our close ally, Israel. I am grateful for the work the Senate has already done in passing this bipartisan legislation, and I am hopeful the President will swiftly sign this bill into law.”
Walters represents California’s 45th District and sits on the House Transportation and Infrastructure and Judiciary Committees.
