Press Release

Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Mimi Walters (CA-45) today released the following statement in response to President Obama’s veto of S.1, the bipartisan Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act.

Said Rep. Mimi Walters, “The President had no excuse to veto the Keystone pipeline bill today. Republicans passed a bipartisan bill that would not only create tens of thousands of new jobs and strengthen our energy independence, but would also serve as a responsible and safe way to transport crude oil. In fact, environmental reviews conducted by the Obama Administration’s own State Department found that there would be greater safety and environmental risk in not building the Keystone pipeline. For what reasons does the President have to reject this common-sense, environmentally-friendly jobs bill? The American people deserve an answer, and they deserve a President who will put our economy above partisan politics. Despite the President’s refusal to work with Congress and listen to the voices of the American people, my colleagues and I remain committed to getting this pipeline built and putting Americans back to work.”
