Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Mimi Walters (CA-45) today released the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 351, the LNG Permitting Certainty and Transparency Act. This bill would require the Department of Energy to approve liquefied natural gas export (LNG) permits within 30 days of completion of the necessary environmental permits. H.R. 351 passed in the U.S. House of Representatives with bipartisan support and now awaits consideration by the U.S. Senate.
Said Rep. Mimi Walters, “Exporting American natural gas is a no-brainer when it comes to job creation and strengthening national security. Expanding LNG exports would not only offer our global allies a reliable trading partner - but it would also create tens of thousands of U.S. jobs. Despite the U.S. being the world’s largest producer of natural gas – the Department of Energy has continuously delayed efforts to export LNG to non-Free Trade Agreement countries. This legislation would simply streamline the approval process for export permits, and hold Washington bureaucrats accountable by placing a 30-day deadline for the Department of Energy to issue their final ruling upon completion of a project environmental review. H.R. 351 presents an immense opportunity for the United States, its citizens, and our trade partners – I am hopeful that my colleagues in the Senate and the President will act swiftly in the passage of this pro-growth bill.”
