Rep. Mimi Walters Statement on Her Appointment to the Ethics Committee

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Mimi Walters (R-California) released the following statement on her appointment to the United States House of Representatives Committee on Ethics.

Said Rep. Walters, “I am honored to serve on the Ethics Committee, particularly given recent developments surrounding the conduct of public servants.  The Ethics Committee is responsible for ensuring that this legislative body provides a safe and appropriate work environment for all employees, including members, staff, interns, and fellows.

“To ensure the House operates under the highest ethical and moral standards, membership on the Ethics Committee is equally divided between the two parties.  As the Committee examines important issues such as sexual harassment and internal ethics standards and procedures, it is critical we stand united in our efforts to improve this storied institution.

“Combatting sexual harassment and standing with the victims of sexual assault has been a cornerstone of my legislative career.  My bill, the Survivors Bill of Rights, which was signed into law in 2016, ensures sexual assault survivors have full access to the federal justice system.  I am also a cosponsor of legislation that would require sexual harassment training for all employees and members of the U.S. House, and end anonymous sexual harassment settlements using taxpayer funds.  Serving on the Ethics Committee is a great opportunity to continue our progress to restore the integrity of the People’s House.”

Walters represents California’s 45th District and serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and the House Committee on Ethics.
