Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mimi Walters (CA-45) released the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 2029, the fiscal year 2016 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill. This legislation provides $76.6 billion in discretionary funding to house, train, and equip military personnel; to maintain base infrastructure; to support the quality of life of our nation’s troops and families; and to fund veterans’ benefits and programs. H.R. 2029 passed in the U.S. House by a vote of 255 to 163 and now awaits consideration by the U.S. Senate.
Said Rep. Mimi Walters, “Providing for our nation’s brave veterans, servicemen and women, and their families, is one of the highest duties of the federal government. The funding in this bill would ensure that our veterans are receiving access to the highest quality services and care, that our servicemembers’ housing is supported, and that the necessary infrastructure for wartime, crisis, and peace support is maintained. This legislation would also speed up claims processing at the VA and put in place a modernized electronic health record system to help ensure our veterans receive proper medical care in a timely and effective manner. I’m hopeful the Senate will act quickly to pass this vital bill for our nation’s servicemembers and veterans.”
Walters represents California’s 45th District and sits on the House Transportation and Infrastructure and Judiciary Committees.
