Press Release

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mimi Walters (CA-45) released the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 1735, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2016. This comprehensive bill would authorize the budget authority of the Department of Defense and the national security programs within the Department of Energy. H.R. 1735 passed by a vote of 269-151.

Said Rep. Mimi Walters, “One of the most vital functions of the federal government is to provide for a strong national defense. This bill would fulfill Congress’ Constitutional obligation to do so by advancing the funding and authority to make our military more agile, efficient, lethal and ready. When we send our sons and daughters overseas to fight for our country, we have a responsibility to provide them with the tools they need to succeed. As the daughter of a U.S. Marine, I believe in a strong national defense and am proud to support a bill that protects our country and servicesmembers during this time of unprecedented threats to our security. I look forward to the Senate’s passage of this important bill and I urge the President to retract his veto threat and sign this common-sense bill into law.”

Walters represents California’s 45th District and sits on the House Transportation and Infrastructure and Judiciary Committees.
