Rep. Walters Applauds the Passage of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Mimi Walters (California-45) released the following statement regarding the reauthorization of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act. This legislation will expand career and technical educational programs that give Orange County residents the tools to excel in the 21st Century economy.
“I applaud the House of Representatives vote to pass the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act. This bill will continue to support critical career and technical education programs throughout Orange County. These programs equip individuals in our community with the unique skills needed to develop successful careers and keep our economy competitive globally.
“As technology continues to advance, our Nation suffers from a widening skills gap. Quality, high-paying jobs are available, but too many Americans lack the necessary credentials to be qualified hires. Investing in skills-focused education is crucial to cultivating a talented workforce and growing our economy.
“Local career development programs are successful because they are tailored to their unique communities. This bill will ensure that community leaders have the flexibility to develop programs that meet their local needs, not Washington’s. California’s 45th District is home to some of the most innovative skills-focused education programs in the country. In addition to courses offered on high school and community college campuses throughout Orange County, our three regional occupational programs (ROPs) have prepared local students for successful futures. The distinguished graduates of these programs have made important contributions to our community, and I look forward to seeing these programs continue to thrive under this legislation.”
Walters represents California’s 45th District and serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
