The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a Great Step toward Meaningful Tax Reform

Washington, DC – Rep. Mimi Walters (R-California) released the following statement regarding the House of Representative’s passage of H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Said Rep. Walters, “The U.S. tax code is outdated, complex, and unfair, especially to hard-working Americans.  Middle class Orange County residents deserve much needed tax relief that will let them keep more of their hard-earned paychecks.  Today, I voted in favor of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to ensure that we continue to move toward fundamental tax reform.  This legislation simplifies our tax code, eliminates loopholes, and promotes economic growth, which will allow businesses to create jobs and increase wages for American workers.

“Unfortunately, due to reckless tax and spend policies enacted by the California State Legislature, California suffers from the highest taxes in the Nation.  We must ensure Washington doesn’t put similar tax burdens on Orange County residents.

“Yesterday, on the floor of the House, I received a personal commitment from the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas), that changes will be made to the final version of tax reform to benefit Orange County residents.  I appreciate Chairman Brady’s commitment and I will work with him as the Senate and House tax reform bills are reconciled to ensure that Californians receive the tax relief they deserve.”
