In Mimi’s Washington, D.C. office, internships run throughout the year and are geared towards college students. Students gain invaluable work experience and a firsthand understanding of how the government works.
We provide flexible schedules to accommodate students' diverse course loads, but generally, interns are expected to participate in our office 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. when Congress is in session and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when not in session. Responsibilities vary, but interns research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, handle constituent correspondence, coordinate tours, and attend hearings and briefings. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.
In Mimi’s Irvine office, internships also run throughout the year for high school and college students. Internship hours in the District Office are flexible, and can be part-time or full-time depending on students’ availability.
Interns work with district staff on a variety of projects and are also assigned administrative tasks. Responsibilities include preparing reports, researching specific issues and compiling information to respond to constituent inquiries, assisting with community outreach efforts, handling incoming mail, introductory communications work, media archiving, and performing general office duties. Interns will also have the opportunity to gain field experience by accompanying staff to community events, meetings, and tours throughout California’s 45th district.
Although flexible, internships generally last about three months and run on a quarterly basis. We ask that you submit internship applications six to eight weeks in advance of your desired start date. If you would like more information regarding internships in either of Mimi’s offices, please contact the desired office directly.
