Each year, Mimi has the distinct honor of nominating a limited number of people to four of the five United States Service Academies, including the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy accepts candidates based on their own testing criteria and does not require a Congressional nomination. The honor of attending a Service Academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
Each applicant for a nomination must meet the following requirements as of July 1st of the year of admission to an Academy: be at least 17 years old, but not older than 23; be a U.S. citizen; be unmarried; not pregnant and without legal obligation to support or other dependents; reside within the boundaries of California’s 45th District; and meet the medical, physical, and academic requirements of the Academy.
